Tell it Like it Is

First you need to know where you stand today. Identify your values. Talk about what's important to you with family members or others with whom you share finances. Together, develop goals for your future. Then track your spending for a few weeks or a month. Tools for each of these steps can be found under Fact Sheets.

Controlling Spending

Use a receipt record to plan for future spending. Discover new ways to stretch your money while becoming a savy consumer. Check out the Fact Sheets for cost cutting ideas.

Increasing Savings

Look in the Fact Sheet section to see a collection of saving strategies. Find money to save through creative activities. Take advantage of compound interest. Learn investment basics by completing the home study, Investing for Your Future online, or purchase a copy of the print version through WSU Extension Publications.

Reducing Debt

If you'd like help deciding how to pay down your debt, consider using the PowerPay Program developed by Utah State University Extension. There are two on-line versions from which to choose, or you can buy a copy of the program for your own computer.
